Lodi Unified names interim replacement for superintendent

An interim superintendent was named Tuesday to lead the Lodi Unified School District over the next six months as trustees search for outgoing Superintendent Bill Huyett's replacement. Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Len Casanega, who turned 61 on Tuesday, accepted the interim position.

Oceanside USD looks at work done with 2000 bond

As Oceanside Unified School District trustees consider asking voters to pass another school construction bond, district officials Tuesday gave an update on how money has been spent from the district's 2000 bond.

Ferndale High discusses confederate flags on campus

Ferndale High school held an assembly Monday to discuss the display of confederate flags on school grounds and a student's freedom of speech. Last week, district Superintendent Sam Garamendi, who also serves as the school's principal, removed a confederate flag off of one student's car while it was parked on school grounds. The act provoked a group of students to show up to school this week with flags on each of their cars.

Teachers protest at district board meeting

Teachers and other employees with picket signs turned out in large numbers to Panama-Buena Vista Union School District's Tuesday board meeting. Negotiations with the district's teachers association began in mid-September and are still ongoing.

Superintendent who misused funds will leave with $80,000

The Edison Elementary School District superintendent will walk away with about $80,000 following an investigation that found she mishandled district funds. Superintendent Cheri Sanders charged nearly $16,000 on supplies, travel and alcohol with a district credit card, according to findings from an inquiry that began last fall. She resigned effective June 30 when her contract expires.

Who's calling the fog delays?

This science that goes into the calling of a school fog delay, it's not rocket science. What you need is an alarm clock, a reliable vehicle and an affinity for pea soup. And on a day like Tuesday, the science was up at 4 a.m. driving county streets and roads to see how bad the fog was. The end result was delays of mostly two hours for all Bakersfield schools, the first delay day in the city in more than two years.

Measure L would aid aging schools
