Return to teaching basic math concepts advised

As districts throughout Ventura County and the rest of California consider adopting new math textbooks this year, teachers and administrators also are focused on strengthening math instruction in local schools. They said they look for books that match state standards, benefit students with a variety of skill levels, work for both beginning and veteran teachers, and more.

School board again shelves solar plan

For the second time in two weeks, Santa Rosa school board members on Wednesday shelved a plan to install solar panels on school campuses. Clearly frustrated board members said despite months of negotiations and study, too many significant questions remained about the plan to equip at least seven schools with solar panels.

Support seen for school bond measure

Voters are inclined to support a proposed bond measure to build a small high school and renovate three others, judging from a poll that also gives officials tips on campaign messages that may work the best. The poll of 600 Escondido Union High School District voters found 63 percent in favor of what was identified to them as a $98 million bond measure for the November ballot that, if approved, would increase property taxes by $5 per $100,000 in assessed valuation.

Teachers, parents protest Rialto Unified budget proposals
