Police arrest 2 in gas thefts

A former president of a school employees union has been arrested on suspicion of stealing gasoline from the Alisal Union School District, where she's worked for nearly two decades.

Board expects to add 11 teachers to 10 schools

Although enrollment in the Mt. Diablo school district has declined 1 percent a year for the past six years, this year there are about 300 more elementary students than expected this fall. Because of this unanticipated boost, the school board expects to approve 11 new full-time equivalent teachers at its meeting tonight, at a cost of $662,508.
