Racial tension on campuses inspires local groups to act

Two civil rights organizations have formed a task force to examine reported racial tensions between Latino and African-American students in the Oxnard Union High School District. Task force members made an unannounced visit Wednesday morning to Oxnard High School, where they spoke to Principal James Edwards.

Within days of burying his youngest son, Lasater rounded up other Vasquez High parents and outraged citizens who had heard about the reported bullying that the teenager suffered before his Oct. 20 death. Together, they vowed to do something about it.
