Local schools brace for more budget cuts

Siskiyou County Superintendent of Schools Kermith Walters said Wednesday that according to rough estimates made by the county office of education, elementary districts may need to cut as much as $215 per student for the remainder of the 2008-09 school year. High school districts may see cuts totaling $258 per student, and unified districts may need to cut $225 per student.

Charter school supporters appeal for support

Supporters for the creation of a new charter school have made their case to school district officials. The supporters - including 50 Edwin Rhodes Elementary School parents and teachers - recently submitted a petition to the Chino Valley Unified School District to request the authorization. The school district is expected to provide a response by June 18.

K-8 charter school to open at Loretto site this fall
