Oxnard Union district picks interim superintendent

Oxnard Union High School District trustees named an interim superintendent Wednesday night, signing off on a yearlong contract with Bob Carter. Superintendent Jody Dunlap, who led the district for four years, plans to step down next week, and Carter, formerly Oxnard Union superintendent from 1980-90, officially will start July 1.

Antioch school district will have to cut millions more

The Antioch school district is eyeing deep cuts as California's worsening budget crisis trickles down to the education system. The school district will have to trim about $5.7 million from the 2009-10 budget in order to maintain a 4 percent reserve fund, said Denise Porterfield, the district's chief business official.

Schwarzenegger takes step toward carrying out budget threat

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday followed up on his threat to block a high-interest loan that could be needed to keep California government running if he and state lawmakers fail to balance the budget soon.
