Lodi Unified extends chief's contract

Lodi Unified Superintendent Cathy Nichols-Washer was awarded a one-year contract extension, the Board of Trustees announced Tuesday night in a swell of support for the district's leader.

Modesto superintendent's contract, enrollment tackled

Modesto City Schools trustees spent most of Monday night's meeting hearing from staff and the public about a proposal that allows students ages 12 to 18 to leave school for confidential medical services without parental consent.

LAUSD dropout rate lower after second look

Redrawing the dire high school graduation picture painted just a few months ago, Los Angeles Unified officials announced this week that the district's dropout rate fell sharply in 2007-08 to about 26 percent.

San Bernardino County school board rejects election change

The San Bernardino County school board has decided not to change its election cycle from even to odd years. Board member Gil Navarro initially proposed postponing the election because he said the county Registrar of Voters' Office led him to believe it would save money.
