Is there a way to now receive state apportionment for special education transportation?

Question: Our district is not receiving California State Apportionment for Special Education transportation that we provide. Is there documentation as to why we are not and is there a way that we can apply for this State Aid for our school district? We currently operate two small wheel chair buses and four vans, two of those have wheel chair lifts in them. We put on about 120,000 miles a year. This district is suffering because of a decision that was made awhile ago.

Response: In FY 1991-92, districts determined their funding split between home to school transportation and special education transportation. If districts did not elect special education funding at that time, unfortunately, there is no way to make a change now.

If you would like additional information, below is the contact from CDE that could fax to you a copy of the paperwork showing the district's election for the split. You need to send them your district's CDS code and your fax number to receive the information.
