Question
: Can cheerleaders have a fundraiser and distribute the monies earned only to those who participated? We plan to send the girls to camp and the money that we earn will cover a portion of the parents fee but those that choose not to participate in the fundraising event, we feel should not receive the reduced cost. The cheer fund does not have enough money to cover the cost of camp, so that is why we must fundraise and collect the difference from the parents.Response: Student fundraisers are for the benefit of the entire group (club, class, team, etc), and can not be designated only for those who participated in the fundraiser. Court cases have challenged districts on this issue and won. Students cannot be required to participate in fundraisers and can not be excluded from activities because they did not raise funds for those activities.
