Question: Can ASB clubs charge dues or fees to join?

Response: ASB can NOT charge dues or fees to join.  There are actually very few times that it is legal to charge fees, and those exceptions are only authorized because they are specifically listed in law.

It IS legal to charge students for lost or destroyed materials, so if a student loses their ASB card, the student can be charged for a replacement card. But, that first ASB card must be free. Some districts also sell discount cards, which are different and separate than an ASB card, which allows students to attend events at a lesser charge if they purchase this "discount card".
