Question
: Is it legal for monies from a district’s General Fund to be deposited into an ASB account?Response: The only monies that should be deposited into an ASB account are those funds that are either donated to, or raised by, ASB. ASB accounts are not to be used as "discretionary" funds for principals or other adults, nor should they be used as a clearing account for General Fund monies.
Many districts do incorrectly make deposits into ASB because it is easier and faster to make the deposit since the money is actually collected at the site. The problem is, though, that once money is deposited into ASB, the funds are property of ASB. Once deposited into the ASB account,
all rules and regulations pertaining to ASB apply to those funds. The funds must be expended as all other ASB funds are to be expended, pre-approved by the students for extra-curricular or other expenditures that are not district requirements.10/16/08
